I have been in a rigorous, classical certification course for three years. I’ll be a third generation instructor if I ever finish.
Yes. Three. Years. Almost a Bachelors Degree.
I am really having a hard time with the following:
– Remote program where the actual school/studio is nearly 3 hours away
– School has a Bridge program and I am supposed to be teaching/learning/observing at their bridge studio an hour from me
– I have only ever taken classes, subbed twice, and taught one client for a total of three hours since I started
– Bridge studio owner constantly makes promises but I’m still not teaching at all
– when I do teach or practice teach, nobody is around to provide any feedback or guidance
– Bridge studio doesn’t have another classical instructor making it impossible to observe classes there.
– Bridge studio owner that is connected to the school teaches one Pilates per week which I take. Other than that, she sees 1:1 clients with the majority not even doing Pilates at all (gyrotonic).
In the time since I’ve started, I have taken so many privates and classes. I bought my own equipment and opened my own freaking studio this summer.
I teach there as an apprentice and people pay me what they can. I am insured and up front about my apprentice status.
I don’t see a way to complete this program. I have thousands of dollars and three years sunk into this and I just want to be a great Pilates teacher. That’s it.
What was your experience like? Am I missing something here or is this a weird experience? What would you do in this situation?
